In-House Image Manipulation

FUTURE PUBLISHING LTD. - London - January 2006 to August 2013

In-House Prepress department responsible for all image manipulation for the entire Future portfolio. The London department was created January 2006 and we were responsible for the setup and running of day to day operations. This role as creative image manipulator involves working closely with art directors and photographers, advising at an early concept stage to produce all front covers and important key features. This position also requires responsibility of ensuring all images are correctly colour profiled and problem-solving print related issues (Whether it be Indesign, Photoshop, Profiling, Swatch-matching, Proofing, Press, Design etc) that the magazine teams may encounter.

Titles include T3, T3 Home, Wedding Day, Health and Fitness, Junior, Pregnancy, Classic Rock, MetalHammer.

Colour Retoucher/Account Executive

WYNEDEHAM ARGENT - London - May 2005 to December 2005

My position upon returning to Wyndeham Argent was at the onsite studio at National Magazines Ltd inBroadwick Street, Soho.
My new role as colour retoucher and account executive called for my extensive range of retouching skills to be incorporated into a more Client Liasion direction for specific titles. Requiring one to one involvement between Art Editors and myself from page conception through to final Pdf section collation, including tracking and qualitycontrol of all final proofs.

Specific titles included Cosmopolitan Bride, You & Your Wedding and She.

Mac Operator/Colour Retoucher

H.BAUER PUBLISHING LTD. - London - April 2002 to May 2005

My position as part of the In-House Repro Department involved the page make-up process,image manipulation and colour retouching for leading women's weekly titles such as
Bella, TakeABreak, and That's Life. We also produced several T.V. listings magazines including TV Quick and TV Choice.

The Repro Department was originally set up with Scitex based equipment, progressing into a more contemporary Apple Macintosh environment. It now runs Eversmart Supreme Scanners,
Mac G5's, Photoshop, InDesign and Quark. Acentral Silicon Graphics Origin server runs Twist software for file management. XServes handle the file storage and PDF's are created from Acrobat.

GMG Colourproof stations running Dupont Digital Cromalin, Realist printers and Canon inkjet act as proofingoutput devices.

The workflow has now been setup to include ICC profiling which is attatched to the RGB scans.
The retouching of all our images is predominantly achieved during RGB before CMYK separation is applied.

Crosfield Colourspace Operator

ARGENT COLOUR LTD. - London - September 1998 to April 2002

My time at Argent Colour involved the highest quality retouching and colour reproduction of images for such leading clients as GQ, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan,
World Of Interiors, Tatler, Esquire,
Red, Country Homes & Interiors, and Next catalogue amongst others.

The Colourspace process consisted of colour manipulation through to intense retouching of images that could include client specifics such as age reduction, via removal of wrinkles, weight reduction and skin smoothing. With such major clients, this work had to maintain the highest possible quality.

Scitex Blaze Retouching Operator

COLOUR SYSTEMS LTD. - London - October 1997 to July 1998

The time spent at Colour Systems was within the High End Resolution Retouching Suite. Using the latest Scitex Blaze technology of the era. The areas targeted within this department were the Digital manipulation of images supplied by leading clients such as FHM, Elle and Red.

Scitex Prisma Operator / Scanner Operator

H.BAUER PUBLISHING LTD. - London - June 1992 to January 1997

Position at H.Bauer involved the colour reproduction of In-House weekly titles working to tight deadlines whilst maintaining the highest of quality. Specific duties
included the operation of Scitex Prisma (586 Pentium Upgrade) and Power Mac 9500 for high quality page make-up, colour correction and retouching. In particular the covers, fashion and travel spreads of the titles previously mentioned.

Skills also included the ability to transfer onto scanning stations (Power Mac 9500 linked to Scitex Smart 342Scanner) to produce 4 colour images when required.
Other equipment used on a daily basis included the Pentium Ps Bridge (Version 4) and the Iris Proofing system.

Scitex Supervisor

St. IVES REPRO LTD. St. Ives House - London - February 1991 to June 1992

Whilst working at St Ives my duties involved using Scitex Prisma and Micro Assembler Stations for qualitymagazine and report and accounts page make-up.
Also included were the operation of Autokon scanners linked to Apple Macs to produce black and white scans.Reached the position of Shift Supervisor at 20 years of age, taking responsibility of a team working on highlyadvanced systems producing work for established clients such as British Gas and Wembley Stadium Official Programmes. Four Colour Film Planner

CLOUT & BAKER LTD. - Maidstone - August 1987 to February 1991

My apprenticeship began with this company under the BPIF agreement, and invoved training in the following areas: Four colour final film planning, Report and Accounts work, operation of step and repeat machines, working on Dainippon cameras and working knowledge of page pagination. My apprenticeship reached the end of its term in early 1990 when Tradesman status was achieved.
